Product note

After turning out two great albums of original material, the West Coast's answer to the Beatles was thrown for a loop when their label forced them to release an entire album of covers. While it's easy to sigh about what might have been if the Beau Brummels were left to their own devices, '66 is not without its charms. Anyone with a soft spot for Brums classics like "Laugh Laugh" and "Just A Little" should find it intriguing to hear them add their own spin to tunes by the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Mamas & Papas, etc. Sal Valentino's melancholy-tinged vocals and Ron Elliott's jangly guitar in their prime are a pleasure to hear, even when they're reinterpreting the work of their contemporaries.
