Product note

Personnel include: Kevin Ayers (vocals, guitars); Ollie Halsall, Andy Summers (guitar); Lol Coxhill (saxophone); John "Rabbit" Bundrick (keyboards); Archie Leggett (electric bass); Freddie Smith (drums).
A willfully eccentric artist, British singer/songwriter Kevin Ayers recorded a number of solo sessions for the BBC after his departure from the pioneering psychedelic jazz-rock act Soft Machine. In fact, Ayer's former bandmates, most notably Robert Wyatt, play on some of the madcap tracks on this excellent two-disc set, including the dreamy "Why Are We Sleeping" and the supremely silly "You Say You Like My Hat." Although they are mainly geared toward Ayers diehards, these BBC SESSIONS also provide a good introduction to the performer's quirky aesthetic.
