Throughout the history of R&B, the ballad has been a major focus. Artists such as Cameo, Con Funk Shun, Gap Band, Isaac Hayes, Barry White, and the great Marvin Gaye made the love ballad an integral part of their musical conception. The Bar-kays' too wrote many superb slow songs over the scope of their long career.
THE BALLADS COLLECTION is 12 smooth and sultry ballads taken from a variety of '70s and early '80s Bar-kays albums. Songs such as "I Lean on You/You Lean On Me" and "Angel Eyes" from their 1978 release, LIGHT OF LIFE, appears here, as does "Anticipation" from their 1981 effort, PROPOSITIONS. Other amorous ballads come from now classic albums such as FLYING HIGH ON YOUR LOVE (1977) and TOO HOT TO STOP (1976). The Bar-kays music has always revolved around "feel good" grooves and themes of love and romance. In short, this compilation of their greatest ballads highlights the band's ability to write songs to swerve to, flirt to, or best of all, make love to.
