Title Note

Lloyd Cole may be a lot of things, but he's not so good at following up career highlights. After 1984's flawless RATTLESNAKES, out came the over-produced and under-written EASY PIECES, and after the brilliant half-rock, half-orchestral DON'T GET WEIRD ON ME BABE came 1993's mopey and at times half-baked BAD VIBES.

While even the weakest of Lloyd Cole's albums has much to offer, it takes a while to slog through BAD VIBES's indifferent production before its songs ample charms are revealed. "Mourning Has Broken" and the just plain bitter "So You Want to Save the World" are the highlights, but the two tracks added to the album's delayed US release help lighten the mood considerably. "4MB" especially, a tender yet sunshiny elegy to Marc Bolan, is a small gem. Whatever its flaws, BAD VIBES improves with each listen.
