BACK IN BUSINESS was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance.

Coming out in 1994, as Eartha Kitt was reactivating her career following self-imposed European exile, BACK IN BUSINESS in influenced but not overpowered by the sort of retro kitsch that was hiply fashionable at the time. There are elements of cocktail lounge smoothness on the album, but it's in no way cute or smug the way that some albums in this style can be. Kitt's purring, low voice sounds terrific, and the material, from the slinky "Let's Misbehave" and "Close Enough For Love" to the moving "Angelitos Negros (Paint Me Black Angels)," is consistently first-rate. Even well-worn standards like "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Brother Can You Spare A Dime" sound new in Kitt's able hands. BACK IN BUSINESS is an excellent comeback from a unique and wonderful talent.
