The children's cable network Nickelodeon fashions an American spin on Japanese anime with their original series AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER. On a futuristic Earth torn between the warring elements of Air, Earth, Water, and Fire, only one special being known as the Avatar can bring peace to the conflicted planet. The trouble is, the Avatar is an immature 12-year-old boy called Aang, who would rather wander the world having fun-filled adventures than settle down and face his heroic destiny. I have been a fan of this show from its beginning. Its not very often that an
animation can grab the attention of a young and mature audience, and keep them
begging for more. The latest book in the series continues its tradition of
superb writing and gorgeous animation.
Book 3 Volume 3 includes the highly
anticipated episodes, The Boiling Rock 1 and 2, that were not aired on
Nickelodeon before the release of this DVD. If you have been waiting to see
those episodes, I recommended adding this DVD to your collection.
If you are
a fan of animation, and have yet to experience Avatar the Last Airbender, I
highly recommend you start from the beginning. The shows story and characters
will pull you in, and you will find yourself having Avatar marathons to help you
catch up.
As a childrens title, the story is very honest in its approach.
Even though the characters live in a war torn world in an alternate universe,
connections to real world situations are easily identified. Hope is a
reoccurring theme, while the children sort through their destinies, learning
valuable lessons on the way. Lessons involving family, honor, friendships,
responsibilities, loyalty, perseverance, and bravery are just some of the things
experienced.
The series is action packed, yet balanced with just the right
amount of comedy and drama. This recent installment is no exception. I highly
recommend watching the audio commentaries with the creators. They do a wonderful
job explaining the creative process, while making you laugh at the same time
with their witty comments.

This is a great tool/video to keep your kids completely distracted! They love
this stuff.
