CKY's third major-label album finds the metal quartet trimmed down to a trio and confidently rejecting its associations with the juvenile antics of the JACKASS crew. On 2005's AN ANSWER CAN BE FOUND, vocalist/guitarists Deron Miller and Chad Ginsburg (also the disc's producer) share bass duties, while drummer Jess Margera (brother of renowned skater/JACKASS regular Bam Margera) provides a solid foundation for the band's no-frills heavy rock. (The liner notes proudly call attention to the disc's absence of synthesizers and keyboards.)

Razor-sharp guitar lines remain the group's calling card, as evinced on the frenetic "Tripled Manic State" and the driving "As the Tables Turn," while Miller and Ginsburg's straightforward vocals convey a newfound

urgency without resorting to over-the-top shouting. And in a nod to classic metal albums, AN ANSWER features a gentle acoustic-guitar interlude ("Behind the Screams"), a retro touch that moves things beyond standard nu-metal trappings. Inhabiting territory somewhere between Creed and Pantera, this potent set of unfiltered metal tunes is the sound of CKY hitting its stride.
