Title NoteSince his Mercury Prize-winning 2005 album I AM A BIRD NOW, fans have heard Antony's angelic voice on everything from Leonard Cohen covers to duets with Bjork to the DFA project Hercules and Love Affair. But 2008's ANOTHER WORLD EP marks Antony's first outing with the Johnsons since I AM A BIRD NOW. At five songs, the EP may seem like a teaser, but five new songs from Antony and the Johnsons is cause for celebration. The spare, chilling title track, which bemoans the disintegration of the world we live in, showcases Antony's quavering, passionate tenor to beautiful effect. Antony's voice and piano playing also lead "Crackagen" and "Sing for Me," while "Shake That Devil," a rockabilly-flavored blues, shows the singer in a rare uptempo context. Naturally, ANOTHER WORLD doesn't have the cohesive impact of a full-length, but for the chance to hear Antony's utterly unique, otherworldly voice it's not to be missed.
