Title Note

French composer Erik Satie (1866-1925) called his compositions "furniture music." He coined this term because much of his work was meant to be heard in the background. Like Satie, Raphael's work is both ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing. One needn't focus on ANGELS OF THE DEEP to feel the potency of this album. In fact, the reverse it true. Listeners can simply relax with this music, not contemplate it.

Each track on ANGELS OF THE DEEP will soothe frayed nerves and racing hearts, lulling one into a quiet, meditative state. The title track is particularly peaceful. On this selection, keyboard shimmers dance around choir-like voices, creating a swirling effect. Similarly, "Prayer" features a quaint piano melody, which is accompanied by delicate arpeggios and atmospheric keyboard layers. Satie's own piano piece "Gnossienne No. 3" closes out this release. A mixture of early minimalism and bleak impressionism, this work uses motivic repetition to entrance. ANGELS OF THE DEEP exacts the purity that defines the New Age genre; this music is like a gentle whisper in the ear.
