Kerrang (Magazine) (p.59) - "[T]hey deliver technically perfect versions of the songs that influenced them....A collection of great songs delivered with sincerity..."
On 2006's THE ANATOMY OF, the North Carolina-based hardcore/metal group Between the Buried and Me presents a set of its favorite songs by other artists. Although the album may initially sound like a mix CD, the ensemble performs all of the tunes here in the style of the original recordings, ranging from notably influential tracks (a fierce version of Metallica's "Blackened") to guilty pleasures (a gleeful take on Motley Crue's "Kickstart My Heart") to complete curveballs (a synth-laden rendition of Depeche Mode's "Little 15"), resulting in an exercise in musical mimicry that's both enjoyably ridiculous and admirable.
