This programme presents the story of the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, one of the greatest fighters in aviation history. The aircraft known by combat pilots who flew it as 'The Unbreakable' the P-47, was responsible for 546,000 missions during 1943 and 1945 and less than one percent of those fighters were lost to the enemy during combat missions. Developments came with the P-47D, the P-47G and the P-47M as fuel tanks were increased and more powerful engines used.
