Publisher's note

A portrait of the twentieth-century independent journalist offers insight into his outspoken, five-decade pursuit of truthful, anti-establishment journalism, in an account that includes coverage of his denouncements of Cold War policies, McCarthyism, and the Vietnam Gulf of Tonkin incident. Reprint. 25,000 first printing.

Annotation

The legendary newspaperman and Washington outsider I. F. Stone lived an amazing life. Most-known for his self-edited pamphlet, I.F. Stone's Weekly, Stone was, virtually, a one man "Sixty Minutes," who jabbed at the establishment primarily by doggedly poring over official government documents and extracting both truth and lies. Stone wrote in the progressive tradition, and he spoke out forcefully against the Cold War and, later, the war in Vietnam. This biography recalls his life and times and examines his place in American journalism.
