Francis Hime's second album of the '70s, released four years after the first, finds the basic character of his music unchanged, despite a vastly different lineup. The biggest additions are lyrics and help on vocals from Chico Buarque and Francis' wife, Olivia Hime. The production and arrangements come from Guto Gra‡a Mello and Francis Hime himself. The pair emulates the reflective mood of 1973's Francis Hime, replete with flute and other woodwinds as well as a bit more piano than before. Hime wrote four songs with Chico Buarque (their song of ten years earlier, "Atr s da Porta," had launched Hime's career) as well as one with Vin¡cius de Moraes. Although the songs stand out from a lyrical perspective, the music and Hime's performances make it a slight step down from his excellent debut. ~ John Bush

Francis Hime is an excellent composer/arranger in the best Brazilian tradition. This album comprises some of his biggest and best hits, written together with Chico Buarque, Vin¡cius de Moraes, Ruy Guerra, Paulo C‚sar Pinheiro, Geraldo Carneiro, and Olivia Hime, interpreted by some of the most important interpreters/composers of MPB: Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Paulinho da Viola, Djavan, Maria Betƒnia, Ivan Lins, Mi£cha, Toquinho, Gilberto Gil, Leila Pinheiro, Z‚ Renato, Gal Costa, Joao Bosco, and Beth Carvalho. Pop stars with limited interest for diehard Brazilian music aficionados like Z‚lia Duncan and Daniela Mercury also have good performances in this album. ~ Alvaro Neder
