Between The Buried And Me: Tommy Rogers (vocals); Paul Waggoner (guitar); Dan Briggs, Blake Richardson, Dustie Waring.
Though usually labeled as "hardcore," Between The Buried And Me has little to do with that music's original simplistic loud-fast-rules ethos. With a compositional complexity and rhythmic inventiveness that recall the work of Frank Zappa and the Mars Volta, ALASKA is not only unflinchingly heavy but dizzyingly varied. Though the album's death metal-esque grunts and 1980's shredder-style lead guitar will be familiar to metalcore fans, the frequent time changes, tempo shifts, jaw-dropping chops, and King Crimson references may find favor among fans of left-of-center metalheads System of a Down or followers of the NYC Downtown avant-garde scene.
