AKEELAH & THE BEE, yet another film about a young girl in a spelling bee, boasts a soundtrack rich with R&B classics. Cleverly enough, many of the tracks contain passages in which the singers spell out words: the Jackson 5's "ABC," for example, or Al Green's "L.O.V.E." Old-school soul favorites like the Staple Singers' "Respect Yourself" and the Impressions' "People Get Ready" are also here alongside sleek, disco-fied funk like the Brothers Johnson's "Stomp."
