Packing literate indie rock with real literary cred and turning it up to eleven, Los Angeles' The Airborne Toxic Event are a dream for fans of whipsmart lyrics, narrative, and emotive grandiosity in their pop songs. The brainchild of writer Mikel Jollett--who named the band after a phrase in Don Delillo's classic postmodern novel, WHITE NOISE--the quintet have fused bracing indie rock with a lush synthesis of keyboards and classical strings to emerge as the breakout band of 2008 in L.A. After racking regular rotations on star-making alternative stations like Seattle's KEXP, L.A.'s KROQ, and Boston's WFNX as an unsigned act and appearing at high profile shows in L.A., they settled on Majordomo, an indie rock label run by members of the duo Earlimart. Jollett began the project in 2006 while trying to write a novel.
