Title Note

Proceeds from the sale of this album benefit Assistance Medicale Toit Du Monde, a non-profit organization that provides medical and humanitarian aid to people in Nepal and India.

Performers include: Lamas Of Urgyen Do Ngak Choling, Lamas Of Nyingmapa Wishfulfilling Center.

This mesmerizing and hypnotic recording will thrill listeners who are seeking authentic religious music from the temples of Tibet. The rituals performed here have been captured live, at an outdoor temple, exactly as practiced by the Dharma of the Nyingmapa (The Order of Elders). Leading the ceremonies are the Lamas of Urgyen Do Ngak Choling monastery and the Nyingmapa Wishfulfilling Center. Hundreds of voices perform in the traditional call-and-response style, while bells, gongs, and other rudimentary percussion is used to maintain the rhythms and tempo of these ancient chants. Although it includes over an hour of music, AIR MAIL MUSIC: TIBET-SACRED CEREMONIES features only three selections in order to include the rituals in their entirety. "Ritual of the Green Tara" is the real stand-out track on this recording. Starting from minimal, guttural chants, the song grows slowly over 45 minutes until it reaches a triple-time polyphonic chorus with hundreds of voices pledging devotion to this healing goddess of Tibetan Buddhist faith. On "Ritual of Vajrasaatva," the same pattern emerges. Deep resonant voices grow into ecstatic chant, but this time the rag-dun, a traditional Tibetan horn, is used to effect a thrilling climax. The net proceeds of this recording will go to benefit a humanitarian group that provides medical aid for the people of Nepal and India.
