Review

Spin (p.91) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Singer/mandolin player Tony Duggins writes gorgeous whiskey weepers filled with fiddle, banjo, and tin whistle, while his slurry croon recalls Shane MacGowan's more intelligible days."
Alternative Press (p.148) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "The Chicago-based septet's emotive arsenal is just as genuine as their instrumental one....Singer Tony Duggins communicates with acute precision."

Title Note

Composers: The Tossers; T. Duggins.

The Tossers: Mike Pawula (guitar); Clay Hanson (banjo); T Duggins (mandolin); Rebecca Brooke (violin); Aaron Duggins (whistle); Dan Shaw (bass instrument); Bones (drums).

Personnel: Katie Fischer, Heather Lewin, Jaime Haas, Matthew Owens (unknown instrument); Herb Rosen, Nate Van Allen, Andy Abrisz, Sappy, Doug Geyer (background vocals).

Recording information: Million Yen Studios, Chicago, Illinois.

On this 2007 follow-up to THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH, the Tossers unveil another raucous set of Irish-rooted, punk-minded folk tunes. Although based in Chicago, the group, led by raspy-voiced frontman Tony Duggins, stays true to Ireland's timeless themes of drinking and death (see "Pub and Culture" and "Not Forgotten," respectively), once again reinforcing their rightful place in a lineage that includes Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, and (of course) the Pogues.
