BLK JKS Artist Snapshot:

South African combo BLK JKS earned swift international attention for its frenetic mix of American indie and art rock sounds with Afro-beat. Comprised of guitarists Lindani Buthelezi and Mpumi Mcata, who grew up together in Johannesburg's East Rand, and a rhythm section of Soweto natives Molefi Makananise and Tshepang Ramoba, BLK JKS made their international recording debut in 2007 with a limited-edition 10" vinyl release of the single "Lakeside". By the 2009 release of debut full-length AFTER ROBOTS, the die was cast, tastemaking magazines (from Fader to Pitchfork) had spoken, and the band was deservedly one of the hottest tickets in the world.
