Magnet (p.94) - "[W]hen the scattered pieces fit, as on terrifying singalong 'Japan', you get the sense that you're listening to Pure Art..."
The Wire (p.51) - "[T]here's no let-up in the sister's attempt to cram as many surreal juxtapositions of fairy tale or myth as possible into their work....There are unexpected digressions, digital ingenuity and strange clashes of texture galore."
CocoRosie: Sierra Rose, Bianca Leilani.
The dreamy duo of CocoRosie--siblings Sierra and Bianca Casady--return with their third and strongest album yet. THE ADVENTURES OF GHOSTHORSE AND STILLBORN is a slight departure from their first two albums in that the electronica influences and downtempo trip-hop rhythms that colored those records are much more prominent here. As always, Sierra and Bianca trade vocal duties, but the album's core sound is so consistently mysterious and luxuriant that the listener never gets the sense that CocoRosie lacks a strong, singular musical point of view. Highlights include Bianca's subversive "Japan" and Sierra's mournful "Black Poppies," but THE ADVENTURES OF GHOSTHORSE AND STILLBORN is an album that begs to be listened to as a whole.
