Across The Universe - Original Soundtrack (Deluxe Edition)
One of several surprise musical movie hits of 2007, the innovative and captivating film Across the Universe unraveled itself almost as a continuation of the 1995 "new" Beatles single and video montage, "Free as a Bird" and the popular Cirque Du Soleil's Love show.
The plot of Across the Universe is fairly digestible: An enduring "Romeo & Juliet" romance between two young love-struck characters named Jude and Lucy. What ignites the spark in this film, however, is the fact that this plot is told almost entirely through the timeless hits of the Beatles.
This soundtrack boosts the performances of the film's many celebrity cameos, including Joe Cocker and U2's Bono, in uplifting and hair-raising renditions of the Fab Four hits. While it is difficult to argue that any of the songs are not worthy of praise, the standout covers include Cocker's rootsy stomping version of "Come Together", Eddie Izzard's "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite" and Bono's weirdo rendition of "I am the Walrus," featuring the Secret Machines.
This deluxe edition includes expanded packaging and a 16-page folder foldout strawberry poster.
Favorite Tracks - "I Am The Walrus" - Bono And the Secret Machines, "Girl" - Jim Sturgess, "Come Together" - Joe Cocker.
