For this CD, Henry Kaiser and David Lindley gathered Madagascar's top musicians for an extensive recording/jam session. This is the first of 5 planned releases. Includes a 32-page booklet providing background information and session photos.
Musical explorers Henry Kaiser and David Lindley made a trip to the island nation of Madagascar in the early nineties. Collaborating with numerous stellar musicians there, it led to a series of joint releases, as well as some additional solo albums (a total of five CDs from two weeks of recording). A successful trip indeed! A WORLD OUT OF TIME helped introduce fans of Kaiser and Lindley to the music of this country. Playing accompanying roles, the two Americans are unmistakable when they solo, but for the most part, the spotlight is on the assorted masters they came to meet and record. The set encompasses everything from the native sodona (a Malagasy flute), to bracingly original electric guitarists. Some of the performers were already popular recordings artists in their homeland, others were making their recording debuts (most notable among the latter is guitarist D'Gary). This is wonderfully warm and engaging music, full of invention and passion.
