Though she's hardly obscure by the standards of the American indie scene, Tara Jane O'Neil is one of the few artists who can truly be said to be operating at the very fringes of popular music. While her music invokes a myriad of genres from experimental rock and musique concrete to pre-war blues and even early-`70s soft rock, her particular aesthetic remains beguilingly mercurial and unquestionably unique. After serving tenure in a number of influential indie acts including Rodan and Retsin, Tara released her solo debut PEREGRINE on the Touch & Go subsidiary Quarterstick. Subsequent releases include remarkable efforts like IN CIRCLES and YOU SOUND, REFLECT.

Although Tara Jane O'Neil has an impressive track record from being in bands such as the defunct post-rock outfit Rodan, Retsin, and the King Cobra, it is as a solo artist where she really shines. Her fifth solo album, A WAYS AWAY, is a poignant demonstration of minimalism, carried mainly by O'Neil's understated, ethereal vocals and the sparse instrumentation.
