A TABLE FORGOTTEN is an EP by Oakland's psych-folkie Faun Fables, essentially the one-woman show of Dawn McCarthy. It is a departure of sorts from her several albums on Drag City, both in its brevity, and in that it's purportedly the first in a series influenced by the mundane aspects of daily life. This release finds its muse in the kitchen and involved in the work that is done within. Opener "With Words and Cake" is all percussion and earnest, pleading vocals, musically conjuring to mind Bjork's songs in DANCER IN THE DARK. The language is direct and honest, a celebration of the joys and little feats that we conquer daily in our own kitchens, and that go largely undocumented. A TABLE FORGOTTEN seeks to correct that, and, in its short duration, succeeds.
