Product note

Phil and Don Everly were early pioneers of modern rock 'n' roll, and that can be felt on this exhaustive collection spanning their fifty-year existence. The influence of this duo has been massive, with acts from folk luminaries Simon & Garfunkel to The Beatles early work all feeling the musical effects of this sibling duo. '50 Years Of Hits' contains the well-known numbers 'Bye Bye Love' and 'Wake Up Little Susie', and some less-well-known cuts like 'Crying In The Rain' and 'The Ferris Wheel'.

4 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to the Everly Brothers, October 15, 2009
By Saniette
"50 Years of Hits" is a good introduction to the Everly Brothers, including all of their best-known songs. The title, though, is mystifying, as this collection only spans about 10 years (1957-1968) and the Everlys havent had a hit (or even released an album) since the 80s, with "On the Wings of a Nightingale," which does not appear on this collection. So the title is misleading and rather strange. The album runs nearly 80 minutes with 34 songs, but, as with any anthology, one can always quibble with song choice. I would have liked to see more Cadence material, and some different songs from the Warner era, such as "Thats Old-Fashioned." Also, this is an import album from Rhino UK, so it focuses more on their UK hits, as the liner notes indicate. But Rhinos US career anthology of the Everlys, The Definitive Pop Collection, only includes 30 songs and is spread over 2 discs, which is annoying. Overall, "50 Years of Hits" is a good sampling of the Everly Brothers prime recording years. Recommended.
