The ultimate Joe Tex single-disc anthology, 25 ALL-TIME GREATEST HITS delivers just what the title promises, all of Joe Tex's hit singles plus one rare b-side, the quirky, chipper, soul-folk hybrid "Don't Let Your Left Hand Know." The songs aren't in chronological order, but it's still easy to chart Tex's evolution from the ballad-heavy love man of "Hold What You've Got" to the in-your-face soul shouter of "I Gotcha," all the way to his final incarnation as one of the few 1960s soul artists to make an entirely credible shift into disco, culminating in the hilarious but still funky "Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman)." The collection is carefully remastered, so career highlights like "Skinny Legs and All" sound worlds better than on many of the several budget compilations covering this material.
