Folk legend Joan Baez has had a long and stellar career, and a mere 12-song retrospective simply does not do it justice. Nonetheless, the Baez edition in the ongoing 20th CENTURY MASTERS series does what it's intended to do by offering a serviceable introduction for the uninitiated. The inclusion of Baez's live cover of the Band classic "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and her take on Dylan's "Forever Young" are nice touches, reminding us that in her heyday Baez stood right alongside those towering artists.
