This intelligently programmed best-of doesn't pretend to be the definitive Loretta Lynn collection--with only 12 tracks, how could it? What's here, however, is hard to quibble with, and although it skimps on Lynn's hard-country pre-1965 hits, it presents a pretty reasonable chronological overview of the rest of her career, up through "I Lie," her last Top 10 chart entry. Most of her signature songs are here ("Blue Kentucky Girl," "Coal Miner's Daughter," "One's on the Way," "The Pill"), and the ravishing version of "She's Got You," from a 1977 Patsy Cline tribute, is a welcome bonus. Not the whole story, but you can't go wrong with it, anyway.
