Fueled by the enormous commercial success he reaped from the mid-1970s to early '80s, Barry Manilow parlayed his popularity into the kind of sold-out touring most artists dream about, continuing well into the new millennium. As a follow-up to his best-selling 2002 compilation ULTIMATE MANILOW, 2 NIGHTS LIVE! gives a taste of the man's talents in front of an eager audience over the span of two discs. With a voice that's become richer and mellower with age, this boy from Brooklyn dips into his deep well of songs for the kind of hit material that his adoring diehards have come to expect. Tearing into pop staples like "Mandy," "Copacabana," "Weekend in New England," and "I Write the Songs," Manilow invests them all with a gusto and sincerity that's reinforced by charming between-song banter. Not content to let 2 NIGHTS LIVE serve as a standard greatest-hits package delivered in a live setting, Manilow also makes sure to include a bevy of unreleased songs, including "Harmony," a boisterous Broadway number.
