Jason Miles played keyboards with the late, great Miles Davis, and here he pays tribute to another very influential figure, both within jazz and beyond: Grover Washington Jr. With his melodious, confident saxophone style, Washington virtually defined the crossover jazz sound in the 1970s and `80s. Miles produced TO GROVER, including contributions from Herbie Mann (another important crossover figure), Joey DeFrancesco (a revitalizer of the soul-jazz sound), the Brecker Brothers, and Chaka Khan. Also it's important to note the presence of a couple of heirs to Washington's legacy: smooth-jazz sax kings Dave Koz and Gerald Albright. Whether you're a Grover fan or not, those smitten with smoother jazz styles will find plenty to savor here.
