Title Note

This compilation collects all of the known tracks recorded by the Sherman Williams Orchestra, save for a single track cut in 1956 for Flip Records. Nothing here hints at genius, but these are solid cuts performed by an energetic and professional jump blues combo who were always just a hit single away from breaking out of their Nashville stomping grounds. That big hit never really came (although 1951's "The Bounce," with vocals by the Four Flames, came close), but the band's recorded output for the Bullet, Excelsior, Gold Star, Plymouth and Fidelity record labels, along with Williams' own Unique Records, is well worth hearing. This set includes pianist and singer Ed "Skippy" Brooks' 1951 single ("Skippy Blues" b/w "Across the Country Blues") for Peacock Records. ~ Steve Leggett
