Generally known more for his outlandish persona and garish garb than for his music, Liberace (born Wladziu Valentino Liberace) made a huge pop-culture splash in the early 1950s with his ornate, hybridized classical-pop piano stylings. This well-selected collection features many of his most popular numbers from that era (including a lush version of "Moonlight Sonata" and the lively "Beer Barrel Polka"), allowing Liberace's agile (if over-the-top) playing--still one of the finest examples of kitsch in existence--to speak for itself.
