Suge Knight's Death Row Records pretty much wrote the book on hardcore and gangsta rap during the genre's glory days, and the two-CD set 15 YEARS ON DEATH ROW tells the definitive story. Even if the label had released only Dr. Dre's THE CHRONIC, Snoop Dogg's DOGGYSTYLE, and 2Pac's ALL EYEZ ON ME, three seminal hip-hop classics, its historical status would be assured.

Death Row's G-funk sound, a mix of fat basslines, P-funk samples, seismic beats, and uncensored lyrics about the gangsta lifestyle, defined a generation and proved hugely influential. 15 YEARS offers up a top-notch mix of the label's best, spotlighting the iconic work of Dre, Snoop, and 2Pac while tossing in gems like Lady of Rage's "Afro Puffs." As an introduction to classic West Coast rap, the set couldn't be better, but long-time fans will enjoy having all the best under one cover. The bonus DVD features a host of classic videos, including Dr. Dre's "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang," Snoop's "Gin and Juice," and Warren G.'s "Regulate."
