Product Notes

The 102 Dalmatians soundtrack is packed with pure, of-the-moment pop. Tied together in an all-around commendable effort to get tails wagging on this 11-song package are Nobody's Angel, a funk- and harmony-fused collective that counts riding Britney Spears' skimpy coattails as her opening act among their credits, with the high-energy number "Whatcha Gonna Do (With Your Second Chance)"; 14-year-old Myra, Disney Records' first teen act, with a big-hearted and full-throated cover of "Puppy Love"; and Thunderpuss, the high-profile production team of Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera, contributing the frenetic "So Fabulous, So Fierce" (better known as the '70s disco gem "Freak Out") with vocal help from Jocelyn Enriquez. There's also first cut "Digga Digga Dog," a shameless but nonetheless infectious "Wild Wild West" soundalike, and the cheeky yet plaintive "My Spot in the World," gracefully and evenly performed by Lauren Christy. Culling so much cutesiness left Disney little room for old standbys and new, more theatrical numbers, but a couple do make the cut--Lady and the Tramp's opera-ish "Bella Notte" from is seamlessly squeezed in, as are "Cruella De Vil 2000," an updated version of the hit song from the 1996 version of "101 Dalmatians," and "Cruella," a self-congratulatory rant from the film's fur-hungry villainess herself. All told, like most Disney soundtracks, this collection is failsafe; in its effort to get all audiences in to the groove--everybody from 4-year-olds to their grandparents--102 Dalmatians is spot-on. --Tammy La Gorce
